ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ITS UNIVERSALITY By Dr. Ritu Saxena[1]

 

Abstract

In the current age and times, when more than 750 million people speak this language as a foreign language, and about 350 million use it ss their first language and around the same number use it as their second language, English is regarded as a global language. Initially it was a homogenous language, but today it has expanded to such a large degree that it has assimilated words from other languages, and assumed a heterogeneous character. It now enjoys the status of a link language that hugely influences the growth of any country’s national economy as well as international economy. It is an extremely vibrant language, accepted and treasured by the entire human community.
